The YWCA Wheeling serves the Wheeling community through its Family Violence Prevention, Racial Justice, Court Appointed Special Advocates, Women's Boutique, and Women's Residence & Homeless Shelter. Approximately 3,000 individuals are served in these programs each year. Browse through our website to find out more about each of these programs and the important services your local YWCA provides.
News Updates
The YWCA Wheeling board of directors elected officers for 2010-11 at the organization’s annual meeting at the YWCA building Thursday, June 17. The YWCA held it annual meeting on Thursday June 17. New members were elected, and we said good-bye to several board members.
Elected were Karen Stakem, president; Dea Kennen, president-elect; Colleen Mindzak, vice president; Penny C. Evans, secretary, and Heather Lapp, treasurer.
The group also elected Evans, Hali Exley, Kim Florence, Mindzak and Barbara Pettit to second three-year terms as board members. Dr. Carolyn Darling, Angela Fennerty, Patty Kota, Tina West and Nini Zadrozny were elected to their first three-year terms on the board.

The event, which will begin at 6 p.m., serves to recognize outstanding women and at the same time help the YWCA Wheeling to raise funds for programs that eliminate racism and empower women.

Family Violence Prevention Program Gets Wheels

To help women find opportunities for education, leadership and professional develpment in the Ohio Valley, Kuri has taken the lead in organizing a Women's Forum on Leadership and Professional Development, which will take place at the business college from 5-7 pm Friday Feb. 26, 2010. Most of us have experienced the heart wrenching feeling of rejection and the stinging rage of jealousy, hurt and anger. The majority of people do not pick up a gun, knife or weapon to murder or harm.
